In this jazz guitar lesson I’ll teach you 5 jazz guitar licks over the II V I progression / jazz cadence in major.
I’ll show you all II V I scales needed and the pattern assignment. I made one jazz guitar lick for each position, so by the end of this tutorial you’ll be able to find your way around the neck and have bebop licks that cover the entire fretboard.

The II V I jazz cadence is the most used progression in jazz and jazz related styles like latin and funk. It is vital that you have blocks that you know by heart, so you avoid thinking during playing.

I made a II V I licks guitar PDF, that you can order from the link above.Along with the II V I backing tracks you can start practicing right away. No more excuses 😉

I’ll give you detailed background (theory) information on all the lines. I show each of the ii v i guitar licks note for note. There is a fast and a slow playthrough for each of the bebop licks.

There is almost no jazz standard that doesn’t have a jazz cadence in major in it. You won’t survive long in the jazz world without knowing some ii v i jazz guitar licks in each pattern. This lesson will help you. I’ll take you by the hand and guide you slow and easy!

The ii v i backing track i made is a slower one and a mid-uptempo one. The better you get the faster you should be able to play these jazz licks. Jazz can be pretty fast at times, so prepare yourself. But start slowly. Try to understand the scales used for ii v i progressions and what you do, in order to be able to memorize the bebop lines.
