by admin

In this rundown, we look at a question that we’re often asked in our stores – what is a baritone guitar? Despite their insanely cool tones and the fact that everyone from Metallica to the Beach Boys has used one, the humble baritone is often overlooked by guitarists and we think it’s a damn shame.

With new arrivals such as the Chapman Standard ML1 Baritone opening the eyes of a new generation of rockers, we’ve been getting the baritones out at any opportunity and can’t get enough of their thick, chunky sound.

But what exactly are they and how are they different from a normal guitar? Well, a baritone is a guitar with a longer neck which is normally tuned to B standard (B-E-A-D-F#-B, also known as ‘Baritone tuning’) or A Standard, which is a tone lower (A-D-G-C-E-A). This means that a baritone guitar is either a 4th or a 5th lower than Standard tuning.

But that’s enough chat from us, learn all about them by checking out our rundown now and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
